THE COMEUPPANCE / 1ST DAY OF REHEARSAL

又被提醒說:雖然我在不同場合分享過幾次,但是還是很多人沒聽過,所以依然可以再提一次(順便湊字數?)。(另外三齣戲開排相關在《20220906-0909 第一週》與《20230103-0113 第十七與十八週》)


我很喜歡這一次的Opening,因為各環節精鍊很多,不會太長。


主持是Beth,Associate Artistic Director。首先是所有人的自我介紹,包含現場與Zoom參與的人。接著是Tim,Executive Director先說Signature Theatre是一間base在紐約──Lenape(紐約原住民)的homeland──playwright與storyteller的劇場;Paige說明Mission──James Houghton於1991年成立,有駐團劇作家們(Premiere Residency Writer)的劇場;Beth介紹這棟建築物,之前只有一個劇場,一季只呈現單一劇作家的作品。2012年搬到現址,有三間劇場、兩間排練場與一個對外開放的大廳,給予劇組之間或是觀眾民眾能交流的地方。


劇作家與導演講話後,交棒給舞台設計呈現。模型就在排練場,所以大家都可以看到。岔題一下,這幾次舞台設計都是把模型先送去工廠,讓他們可以參考──尤其是顏色;然後排練前拿回來,所以就有模型可以輔助排練工作。舞台設計呈現後,其他設計輪流說明設計理念。這一次設計們說明都比較簡略,之前的製作,也有服裝設計說滿多細節的。以上環節大約不到一小時,休息後就開始讀劇。


因為COVID POLICY調整,所以這次大家都可以現場參與。所謂的「大家」是指全公司的人。過往第一次開排都會邀請全公司的人,只是之前除了劇組成員,其他人都只能視訊,這次終於回到可以現場參與,感覺越來越回到正常工作模式了。


上一週(20230403-0407 第二十九週)有提到Devised Show。現在我們的時間軸是:舞台設計在開排前就完成,開排的同時劇場也開始裝台。如果是Device Show應該不是如此吧?那麼,像我以前在臺灣時,有時候開排時舞台還沒定稿、沒辦法貼馬克,或是一邊排練導演一邊寫劇本,應該就是一種Device Show?我們都有足夠的資源支持製作嗎?



SHOW REPORT

雖然不是上週的事,但呼應《訪談07》提到的專業分工。預演第二週Tech Freeze後,設計們基本上就沒有太多可以做的事了。首演之後,主創與設計都功德圓滿,當然也不需要執行演出。Stage Manager是負責維持演出運作與品質的人(當然PM會支援相關需求)。據我所知,Stage Management主修的學生幾乎都要修導演課。以下提供一個Show Report供參考。每個SM會怎麼寫

Performance Note不一定,分享兩個例子。(上一點馬賽克,ABC是演員名,XYZ是場次/場景)


演出A

The Cast stormed the stage this afternoon to deliver another great performance. We did have a few line flubs today, but we bounced back quickly from each and it certainly didn’t deter our excited and vocal audience. The House loved CCC’s discovery of her First Period in Movement 1 – and we had applause for the end of Movement 2 and the transition into the ZZZ.


演出B

Another beautiful performance. AAA was very much on tonight. His pacing was right in his pocket and he seemed very connected to the text and present in each moment. BBB’s performance was beautiful as well though it did feel at times like she was diving packing a little aggressively which sometimes acts in competition with the tech. She did plant herself instead of executing blocking around the blessing, and, going out the YYY where she also happened to drop the introduction to the honeymoon. Once BBB returned the mic and walked away without introducing the honeymoon, we called the technical transition and AAA continued with only a pause. BBB also jumped the lines leading into XXX which was difficult for us to catch up to technically but we managed. In other weird things that happened tonight: there was a loud sound, similar to someone unplugging or tapping a live mic coming from a speaker house left in the middle of AAA’s top of Act II monologue. AAA paused for a minor beat and the sound stopped. The audience gave a lovely ovation at the curtain call!


在上海《獅子王》與《美女與野獸》時,情況又不太一樣,因為有駐團主創在,所以會交給他們負責。
